The 55th Annual Oktoberfest runs September 4 through November 2, 2025, making it the longest-running Oktoberfest in the country. Weather-wise, September days are warm with cool nights (average high around 79 degrees), and by November you will want a sweatshirt most of the time (average high around 61 degrees). The fall trip list should include a Yonah Mountain hike, a drive along the Russell-Brasstown Scenic Byway, and at least one plate of authentic schnitzel.

If you have only been to Helen in summer, you are missing the main event. Fall is when this town really comes alive. The sticky Georgia humidity gives way to cool, dry mountain air, and the hardwood forests covering every ridge turn shades of red, orange, and gold that stop you in your tracks. On top of the color, Helen runs its famous Oktoberfest for nearly two full months. The whole town takes on a festive energy that the Germans call Gemutlichkeit, which roughly translates to warmth and good cheer. You feel it inside the Festhalle, out on the hiking trails, and around the fire pits at riverside cabins. For the 2025 season, the festivities are split into a weekend-only start before transitioning to a daily schedule:

Weekend Openings: September 4–7, 11–14, and 18–21.

Daily Operations: September 25 through November 2, 2025.

The Parade: The official kickoff parade takes place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 12:00 PM. It begins on Edelweiss Strasse, winds to Chattahoochee Strasse, and concludes on Main Street, followed immediately by the tapping of the first keg at the Festhalle.

The heart of the festival is the Helen Festhalle, a massive Bavarian-style hall featuring long communal tables, a dance floor, and a stage for Oompah bands.
