On price, standard flights run $14 to $35, and the premium cave tours at Yonah Mountain reach $115. Hours vary a lot, and Creekstone is one of the few with late weekend hours, staying open until 9:00 PM.
Why the Valley Grows Good Wine
The wine here starts with the geography. The Sautee Nacoochee Valley isn't just a pretty backdrop, it's a geologic bowl formed where the Chattahoochee River meets Sautee Creek, sheltered by the granite face of Mount Yonah. Rising 3,166 feet, Mount Yonah (Cherokee for "Bear") sets the skyline and creates a microclimate that turns out to suit Vitis vinifera unusually well.
Helen, two miles north, is known for its Bavarian architecture and Oktoberfest, but the Sautee Nacoochee Valley makes a quieter counterpoint, where the focus shifts from beer steins to Bordeaux blends. The History Around the Vineyards

The Sautee Nacoochee Indian Mound
Located at the intersection of Highway 17 and Highway 75, this landmark is the visual center of the valley.

It's often tied to the "Romeo and Juliet" legend of Sautee and Nacoochee, lovers from warring tribes, but the archaeological evidence shows the mound is a Mississippian culture burial site dating between 1350 and 1600 CE.
The Gazebo: The distinctive gazebo atop the mound was added in 1890 by Captain James H. Nichols, a former property owner, marking a unique collision of indigenous history and Victorian agricultural aesthetics.
Hardman Farm: Directly across from the mound stands the Italianate mansion of Hardman Farm, built in 1870. It is a state historic site open for tours, offering context on the agricultural lineage that preceded the modern vineyards.
Habersham Winery, the Valley's Pioneer
One of Georgia's oldest and largest wineries, Habersham is really the foundation of the modern North Georgia wine scene. It opened in 1983, well before the current agritourism boom, and built its name on consistency and being easy to visit.

The Estate and Atmosphere
Habersham is located within Nacoochee Village, a cluster of historic buildings that includes antique shops and the Nora Mill Granary. The winery facility itself is designed for high volume and accessibility, featuring large viewing windows where visitors can observe the crushing, fermentation, and bottling processes - a rare educational insight in the region. The aesthetic is rustic-industrial, appropriate for a working production facility, with a covered outdoor pavilion for warmer days.
Wine Portfolio and Signature Vintages
Habersham produces wines under three distinct labels: Habersham Estates (Vinifera and blends), Creekstone (Premium varietals), and Southern Harvest (Muscadine).
Signature Red: Scarlett. A proprietary blend that balances fruit-forward notes with a smooth finish, arguably their most recognized label.
Signature White: Signet. A crisp white blend often compared to Pinot Grigio but with distinct floral notes.
The "Porch Sipper": Cherokee Rose. A semi-sweet rosé that caters to the casual palate, ideal for the humid Georgia summers.
Food Pairings: The tasting room features a curated market of imported cheeses, gourmet crackers, and charcuterie items essential for a picnic. They do not have a full-service kitchen, but the Nacoochee Village location places them within walking distance of local dining.
Creekstone Winery, the Hillside Estate
Owned by the same family as Habersham, Creekstone feels completely different. It opened as a standalone estate to show off the premium Creekstone label, built to look like a French country mansion and set on a ridge overlooking the valley.
