A family pumpkin farm near Amicalola Falls with a big pumpkin patch, a farm store and daily hayrides. New this year, the hayride passes through Autumn & Gordy's Harvest House, billed as the world's largest drive-through pumpkin. A Journey in Clay: The John Burrison Collection

Tallulah Falls Saturday Night Bluegrass Jam

Local pickers gather by a bonfire downtown for an informal bluegrass jam. Bring a lawn chair, an instrument if you play, a picnic supper and s'mores fixings. Free, and donations are appreciated.

Wildlife of Unicoi

Park staff introduce the local wildlife of Unicoi at the Visitor Center, and you may get to meet resident animals Anderson, Luna and Petunia. A parking fee is required.

Uhuburg Castle Day Visits

Explore Helen's Renaissance-style castle: climb the lookout tower, walk the castle walls, see the philosophy murals and the greenhouse, and join the free guided tours that leave through the day. Tickets are $35 adults, $30 seniors 65+ and military, $25 ages 3-12, ages 0-3 free; buy ahead online. Guests park off Ridge Road and ride a shuttle up to the castle. Closed in January except CastleFaire; day visits resume February 13.

Foxfire Face Jug Pottery Class

Learn the history of the Appalachian face jug and hand-build your own. This is a two-day class: a building day plus a shorter glazing day two weeks later. Ages 14 and up, maximum 5 students, $165, and museum admission is included on both days.

Foxfire Traditional Handbuilding Pottery Class

Georgann Lanich teaches three pottery methods used before the potter's wheel. The October class makes a leaf-decorated lidded pumpkin; the November class makes holiday trees and ornaments. Plan on a building day and a one-hour glazing day a week later. Ages 14 and up, maximum 5 students, $145.

Foxfire Woodcarving Classes

Heritage skills teacher Brian Ledford teaches folk-art woodcarving, and you keep your carving knife and cut-proof glove. October 24 is a Kids + 1 class: each team needs one adult and a child aged 10-17, $70-$150. November 14 is the adults-only class (18+), $100.

Northeast Georgia Arts Tour (Fall)

Tallulah Gorge Fall Aesthetic & Whitewater Releases

Georgia Power raises the river through the gorge, which normally runs about 35-40 cubic feet per second. Aesthetic releases bring 200 cfs. Whitewater weekends bring 500 cfs on Saturdays and 700 cfs on Sundays for expert kayakers, and spectators watch from the rim trails and overlooks. Hiking and climbing on the gorge floor are not allowed on release days, and the south-side staircase closes. A parking fee applies.

Celebrating Native American Heritage Month at Sautee Nacoochee Center

Film, exhibits and discussion about Native American culture in the Sautee Nacoochee area, part of the center's Environmental Film Series. $10 suggested donation, with popcorn and a drink.

Whitewater Watch Hike at Tallulah Gorge

On five of the whitewater release days, rangers lead hikers down to the splash zone to watch kayakers run the rapids. This is the only gorge access on release days without a boat. The route is highly strenuous, covering about 800 feet of elevation on rocky 25- to 55-degree slopes. A waiver is required. $15 plus the parking fee.

Second Saturday Guided Hikes at Smithgall Woods

Smithgall Woods holds a guided hike on the second Saturday of the month. On Nov 14 the hike is the 1.7-mile Laurel Ridge Trail, which ends with a view of Yonah Mountain and stays open during the park's Nov 11-14 hunt; on Dec 12 the Festive Hike follows the moderate 1-mile Chunanee Falls Trail and covers the origins of Christmas traditions. Reservations required by phone; $10 parking pass or annual pass needed. From January 2027 the trail changes each month, so call the visitor center to find out which one is being hiked; 2027 hikes are $10 plus the parking fee. The park lists January 9 and April 10 inside its posted hunts, when all trails but Laurel Ridge close, so confirm with the park first.

Sunset on the Bald at Brasstown Bald

On these two Saturdays, Georgia's highest point stays open until 6:30 PM so you can watch the sun set from the top. The last shuttle up is 5:30 PM and the last shuttle down is 6:30 PM. Regular entry applies: $10 ages 16 and up, kids free.

A naturalist-led walk from the Visitor Center to the park's primitive cabin, a mild 3-mile route on a flat paved path. Georgia State Parks lists it, but it falls inside the park's posted firearms hunt (Nov 25-28), when trails other than Laurel Ridge are closed, so call the visitor center at 706-878-3087 before planning on it. $5 per person plus $10 parking; reservations by phone.

Helen Holiday Lights

Downtown Helen lights up at the Lighting of the Village on November 27, with decorated shop windows and Bavarian storefronts trimmed in lights. The organizer has not published how long they stay up; in past seasons they have stayed lit into the new year. Many shops and restaurants are open into the evening, so it is easy to stroll the lights after dinner.

Holiday Express on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

One-hour holiday train rides on select dates from late November to Christmas Eve. Departures are mostly 10 AM, noon and 2 PM but vary by day, so check the ticket calendar; tickets sell out fast. Prices show at booking and season passes are not valid.

Guardians of the Jukebox

A 1980s hits show the fairgrounds listed for November 28. It has since dropped off the fairgrounds' event list, with no cancellation notice found, so call 706-896-4191 before planning on it.

Helen's Christmas Market

The 19th annual Helen's Christmas Market, in the style of a German Christkindlmarkt, fills the downtown Marktplatz and Unicoi Hill Park with handmade gifts, decorations, sweets and treats, run by the Helen Chamber of Commerce. Savory food is at the restaurants in town. Free admission.

Holiday Celebration & Starry Night Safari at NOGAWILD

An evening holiday festival with a Starry Night Safari hayride past camels, zebras and bison, a live-animal nativity, the first visit of Safari Santa and his animal friends, and local pottery and art in the gift shop. She Loves Me

A musical comedy set in a 1920s perfume shop, where two coworkers who cannot stand each other are secretly falling in love as anonymous pen pals. Shows often sell out, so buy tickets ahead.

Christmas at Toccoa Falls

The University of Toccoa Falls' free Christmas evening, with the concert band, handbell ensemble and Singing Men in concert and, in past years, a reception afterward with the Toccoa Falls waterfall lit for the season.

Annie at the Holly Theater

The Holly Theatre Company's December musical: little orphan Annie wins over 1930s New York while searching for the parents who left her. Rated G; about 2 hours. A good pairing with Dahlonega's Christmas season on the square.

Christmas Fest

Downtown Toccoa's Christmas festival opens with the community tree lighting at 6 PM, plus live music, holiday vendors, carriage rides, a live Nativity, the Santa's Express train and visits with Santa. The Festival of Trees fills the Historic Courthouse, where votes for your favorite tree cost $1 each and raise money for charity.

Downtown Clarkesville Christmas and Habersham County Christmas Parade

Clarkesville's downtown Christmas celebration on the square, with the Habersham County Christmas Parade the same evening. Free admission, with free photos with Santa, Christmas llamas, a holiday cookie crawl, craft vendors, games and live music. The parade's start time is not published.

Friday Night Concerts at the Old Courthouse

Tallulah Falls Floating Christmas Tree Lighting

Tallulah Falls lights the area's only floating Christmas tree on Tallulah Lake. The evening starts with a potluck dinner at Town Hall at 6 PM; the tree is lit around 7 PM, with a bonfire on the lakeshore and a visit from Santa. The tree stays lit through New Year's Day.

The Grand Illumination and Chateau Christmas Market at Chateau Elan

The resort's complimentary Christmas tree lighting is December 4 from 6 to 7 PM, with an RSVP. The Chateau Christmas Market follows on December 20 at 2 PM.

Victorian Christmas at Hardman Farm

Step into an 1877 Christmas at the Nichols family's decorated mansion, where costumed interpreters and seasonal music fill the rooms. Warm sorghum ginger cookies come from the historic kitchen, Santa visits in the carriage house, and horse-drawn wagon rides follow the old Unicoi Turnpike, with s'mores by the fire and handmade gifts in the Visitor Center. Christmas in the Mountains Holiday Market & Lighted Parade

The White County Chamber's county-wide holiday kickoff fills the Cleveland Courthouse Square with craft, gift and food vendors from noon to 7 PM, with free photos with Santa at the Chamber office from 1:30 to 5:30 PM. The lighted Christmas parade starts at 6 PM at Jack P. Nix Elementary, turns north on Main Street at the square and ends at White County Middle School. Held rain or shine, about 15 minutes from Helen.

Christmas Market at Yonah Mountain Vineyards

Yonah Mountain Vineyards' second annual Christmas Market brings local vendors with handmade gifts, kids' crafts and letters to Santa, and mulled wine for purchase. Santa photos run 1-4 PM for $25 per family; call the winery to reserve.

Tallulah Gorge Spring Whitewater Releases

Twice a year Georgia Power sends whitewater-level flows through Tallulah Gorge: 500 cfs on Saturdays and 700 cfs on Sundays. Expert kayakers run the gorge while spectators watch from the rim overlooks and suspension bridge. Gorge-floor hiking is closed on release days. A parking fee applies.

Blackberry Smoke with Ben Chapman

Georgia's own Blackberry Smoke plays Anderson Music Hall with special guest Ben Chapman. Tickets $35, $45 and $55 plus handling.

The Rhododendron Festival at Hamilton Gardens

Peak bloom season at Hamilton Rhododendron Gardens, which holds more than 400 varieties of rhododendron and native azalea on easy 1- and 2-mile trail loops above Lake Chatuge. In 2026 the festival was open daily, 11 AM - 3 PM Monday-Thursday and 10 AM - 4 PM Friday-Sunday.

She Kills Monsters

Corvair Springfest

A weekend for Corvair owners from across the Southeast, with a People's Choice car show of 1960-1969 Corvairs (up to 300 cars), an autocross that spectators can watch, valve cover races and an indoor swap meet in the Festhalle.

Bear on the Square Mountain Festival

Foxfire Cigar Box Dulcimer Class

Camp Frank D. Merrill 5th Ranger Training Battalion Open House

Once a year the Army's 5th Ranger Training Battalion opens its mountain training camp to the public for live demonstrations of hand-to-hand combat, military skydiving and simulated battle scenarios, plus displays of vehicles and equipment. Free and open to the public.

Edible and Medicinal Plants at Smithgall Woods

An introduction to safe and ethical foraging, followed by a guided hike to look for common plants of the region. $5 plus the parking fee; call 706-878-3087. The park lists this date inside its posted hunts, when all trails but Laurel Ridge close, so confirm with the park first.

Great Composers Concert

Tour of Georgia Gran Fondo

A cycling ride with timed climbing segments over the mountain gaps made famous by the Tour de Georgia, starting and finishing in Helen. Routes are about 90, 65 and 25 miles; registration starts at $170 (Gran and Medio) and $120 (Piccolo) through January 11, 2027, rising after that.

North Georgia Hot Rod Reunion & GM Truck Invasion

Georgia Mountain Fire & Smoke Cooking Festival

BavarianFest

A Memorial Day weekend party at the Festhalle that opens with a Color Guard honoring the military, followed by a live oompah band, dancing, beer, wine and wursts. In 2026, active, retired and veteran military and a guest got in free with military ID.
