Live music in Helen, in short
Helen plays two kinds of music at once. There's the Bavarian side, with brass, accordions and a dance floor where strangers end up doing the Chicken Dance. And there's the North Georgia side: country, rock and bluegrass on riverfront decks and winery patios. A short walk can take you from one to the other. The village took on its Alpine look beginning around 1969, and the beer-hall music came along with it.

The Helen Festhalle is the center of the town's music calendar, and Oktoberfest is when it earns the title. Long communal tables, a stage for brass bands and a wide dance floor make it easy to join in, even if you've never polkaed. Taverns, decks and wineries
If polka isn't your thing, Bigg Daddy's posts live music Thursday through Saturday at 7 PM and Sunday at 2 PM at its Helen location. Cowboys & Angels pairs steaks and Southern food with live entertainment, and Paul's on the River has a deck over the Chattahoochee.
For something quieter, drive about five minutes south to Sautee Nacoochee for Creekstone's Friday and Saturday After Hours sets, or to Habersham Winery's free weekend afternoons, which wrap up for the year on October 31. More places to eat while you listen are in our live music dining guide.

Is there a cover charge at the Festhalle?
During Oktoberfest, yes. Adults pay $10 Monday to Thursday and $15 Friday and Saturday; Sunday is free. Kids 6-12 pay $5 or $7, and children under 6 are free. IDs are checked at the door.
When is the Songwriters Festival?
A spring weekend, usually in late April. The 2026 festival was April 24-26; 2027 dates haven't been announced, and the calendar lists them as to be announced.
