The short answer
The Troll Tavern earns its name the second you find it: you walk down under the Main Street bridge and there's a restaurant at the water's edge, with patio tables a few feet from the Chattahoochee. It's family friendly, there's a bar and a large indoor dining room with plenty of TVs, and the menu is wider than most places in town.
That range is the draw. A group that can't agree on German food versus burgers versus fish can sit at the same table. And if you came for the beer, the boots are served in 1, 2 or 3 liters, which tends to settle arguments about what to order.

What to order
For the German plates, the Bavarian Trio Platter ($30) puts a bratwurst, a kohlwurst and a fried pork schnitzel on one plate with garlic red skin mashed potatoes, red cabbage, sauerkraut and marble rye. The Weinerschnitzel Platter and the Combo Platter (bratwurst and kohlwurst) are the smaller versions. Prefer a sandwich? There's a Grilled Reuben, a Muffaletta and the Troll Melt, which is two burger patties with swiss and cheddar, grilled onions and house-made thousand island on marble rye.
The burgers are smash burgers, from the Tavern Burger to the Angry Goblin, which stacks two patties with bacon, onion straws, pepper jack and the house-made goblin sauce. On the lighter side, entrees include grilled rainbow trout, grilled salmon, fish and chips with wild-caught haddock, and blackened bayou shrimp. Starters worth a look: soft baked pretzel with beer cheese, fried green tomatoes and mountain fries loaded with beer cheese and bacon.
