Most of Helen's hotels sit on or near Main Street, so you can leave the car in the lot and walk to dinner, the shops and the Chattahoochee. The Helendorf River Inn is the riverfront classic, Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites are the suite-style options downtown, and Valhalla is the upscale pick on the hill. Cleveland, about 15 minutes south, has more rooms if downtown is full. Rates change by weekend and season, so check current prices on each hotel's own site.

Cabins get most of the attention in Helen, but a hotel has its own pull. You check in, park, and the whole village is within a few minutes' walk: the shops and restaurants, the river, and the Festhalle during Oktoberfest. When Cleveland makes sense

Cleveland is about 9 miles and 15 minutes south of downtown Helen on GA-75. It's worth checking when Helen is full or priced for a festival weekend. You'll drive in for dinner, and you'll be close to Babyland General Hospital and the town square. Helen's own hotels are the better choice if you want to walk to the river or the Festhalle.
