Habersham Winery is about a mile south of downtown and open Sunday 10 AM to 6 PM and Saturday until 8 PM. Check its site for current hours.

Oktoberfest admission is $10 Monday to Thursday, $15 Friday and Saturday and free on Sunday. Tubing, when outfitters are running, was $14 on weekdays and $16 on weekends in 2026 (Cool River Tubing).
Where to stay
Helen has hotels in town, lodge rooms and cabins at Unicoi State Park, and cabin rentals in the hills. We don't list nightly rates because they swing widely by weekend and season, so check your dates before you commit.
Downtown Helen
The easiest choice for a first visit: park once and walk to the river, the shops and the Festhalle. Helendorf River Inn at 33 Munich Strasse sits on the Chattahoochee; the stays map below shows more.
Unicoi State Park
Unicoi Lodge and the park's cabins are about 10 minutes from downtown, with trails and Unicoi Lake outside the door. Plan on driving back to town in the evening.
Sautee-Nacoochee valley
A few minutes south of downtown, with farm-country views and easy stops at Hardman Farm and Habersham Winery. Quieter at night.
Cabins in the hills
Cabin rentals are spread through the hills around Helen. Rates and availability change by weekend, so check your dates on the stays map before you plan around a price.
Getting around without a car
If you stay downtown, the village is walkable end to end. Anna Ruby Falls, Unicoi, Hardman Farm and BabyLand all need a car. The Helen CVB lists local transportation, including Alpine Express and a golf-cart taxi, but we can't promise rides on busy Oktoberfest nights, so plan on driving yourself.

Averages are NOAA 1991-2020 normals for the Helen weather station, in degrees Fahrenheit. Helen is about 1,440 feet up, so mountain trails and overlooks run cooler.
Weekend trip questions
Is a weekend in Helen from Greenville enough time?
Two nights works well. You get a Friday evening, a full Saturday and a Sunday morning, which covers Anna Ruby Falls, a village walk, a festival or river activity and two dinners.
What time should we leave Greenville on Friday?
Around 2 PM, so you arrive by about 4 PM. If you leave at 5 PM or later you'll arrive around 7 PM and drive the last stretch on GA-17 at dusk or in the dark.
Should we stop at Commerce outlets on the way?
Commerce isn't on the direct route from Greenville. It's about 24 miles past the Lavonia exit and adds roughly 30 miles and 30 to 40 minutes. Skip it unless shopping is the point.
How much does a weekend in Helen cost?
We don't print a total because lodging and meal prices change by weekend. The published fees are in the table above, and you can check lodging rates for your dates on the stays map.
Can we do the weekend without a car?
Only if you stay downtown and skip the outlying stops. Anna Ruby Falls, Unicoi, Hardman Farm and BabyLand all need a car.
What changes in other seasons?
Tubing runs daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Oktoberfest ends November 1. The Lighting of the Village is November 27 and the Christmas Market runs November 28-29 and December 5-6.
