Habersham Winery
Habersham has been making wine since 1983 and calls itself one of North Georgia's oldest and largest wineries. The tasting room is half a mile south of Alpine Helen, and a tasting is $18 plus tax for five wines. Reservations aren't needed for small groups (groups of 10 or more should call; tour buses book two weeks ahead). Kids and under-21 guests can come in with adults, service animals are welcome inside, and leashed dogs can sit outside and in the pavilion.
Wines come under the Habersham, Creekstone and Southern Harvest labels, made from vinifera, French-American hybrid and muscadine grapes. There's live music on weekend afternoons through October 31. CeNita Vineyards
CeNita is a family-owned winery and wedding venue at 591 Dock Dorsey Road in Cleveland, between Helen and Dahlonega. Its site lists a tasting room (the Original Tasting Room), a second space called Dock's Place and a Vineyard Lawn for sitting outdoors, plus disc golf and yard games. Mount Yonah is visible from the property.
The wines named on the winery's site include a Chambourcin, a Summer Breeze white, a Chardonnay and a Merlot, and visitor reviews on the site mention a wine slushie. Light food is sold, including rosemary bread, and live music happens on occasion. Dogs are welcome. Groups of seven or more should call ahead at 706-865-7478, and the winery takes wedding tours by appointment.
Events at both
Both wineries keep a steady calendar. Habersham is built around weekend afternoons, and CeNita fills its fall with seasonal parties. Check each winery's events page or CeNita's events page for the latest.

Quick tips
Habersham first
It's three minutes from downtown Helen and you don't need a reservation, so it fits before or after a hike or lunch.
CeNita for lingering
Plan a longer stay. There are lawn games and disc golf, and the Vineyard Lawn is built for sitting outside.
Layers
October highs in Helen average 70 degrees with lows around 46 (NOAA). Bring a jacket for an evening on the lawn.

Planning the day
From downtown Helen, Habersham is about three minutes by car and CeNita about 22 minutes. Georgia's drinking age is 21, so plan a designated driver, or look at the visitors bureau's list of wine-tour services. To add a third stop, Yonah Mountain Vineyards is about 20 minutes from Helen, and the wine trail guide lays out a full day. Hours change by season, so confirm on each winery's own website before you go.
